Easy install, high protection Abox junction box range expands

09th March 2021
Industrial enclosure manufacturer, Spelsberg, has expanded its range of easy installation, high protection junction boxes. The Abox, with variants for indoor and outdoor use, including a watertight model, is now available in a wider range of sizes. Designed for fast installation, the Abox provides protection from dust and splashes through to full submersion.

For indoor use, the Abox junction box is designed for the installation of 5-pole connections and is suitable for the connection of meter panels to the main power supply and circuit distributors. Featuring IP54/65 protection, the Abox can withstand liquid splashes from all directions and is dust-tight. With raised terminals on a flame-resistant polystyrene base, the Abox can be used to protect electrical distribution in damp locations.

Innovative optional plug-in terminals enable faster installation with a soft elastic material on each entry hole that allows cables to be easily pushed through the membrane while upholding the IP rating. The range now includes a terminal capacity of 70mm2.

For outdoor and demanding industrial applications, the Abox-i range is constructed from highly resilient polycarbonate and achieves IP65 protection, meaning resistance to low pressure water jets with total sealing against dust penetration. Abox-i is also highly resistant to impact and features IK08 protection, one of the highest levels and giving equivalent protection from 1.7kg dropped from a height of 30cm.

With rated insulation voltage up to 690 V, Abox-i achieves Class II protection and can withstand temperatures up to 80°C. The junction box features the same easy to use terminal fittings as the standard Abox and the growing range now includes a capacity of 240mm2.
The Abox XT range extends protection even further and is designed for use in flood areas or soil. Typical applications of use for the watertight Abox XT include car wash facilities, tunnels, harbours or under soil without traffic loads. IP68 protection includes sealing from dust particles as well as full submersion in water. The Abox XT has also undergone additional testing to DIN EN 60529, achieving 168 hours of submersion in water up to 15 meters deep. Cast resin sealing also provides additional protection for the terminals.

The Abox XT SL also includes screwless WAGO terminals that meet all normative requirements for contact security. Cable installation is a fast process and includes five plug-in terminal blocks. The expanded range now means that 3 x 6mm2 cross sections can be clamped per pole.
