Sulzer’s new Drumscreen Monster® Channel Rotary Screen (CRS) is an innovative screening solution designed to boost the efficiency and performance of municipal wastewater treatment facilities. Initially exclusively available for US customers, the solution meets the exacting demands of modern treatment processes with superior solids capture, reduced maintenance downtime, and seamless integration into existing infrastructure. This state-of-the-art design ensures that treatment plants can operate more efficiently, with fewer disruptions and lower operational costs, while maintaining high standards of environmental protection.

Designed for installation in the headworks section of municipal wastewater treatment plants, the Drumscreen Monster CRS plays a crucial role in the initial stages of the treatment process. By efficiently removing solids at the beginning of the treatment cycle, it prevents blockages and reduces the burden on sensitive downstream equipment.

While it is particularly effective for protecting Membrane Bioreactors (MBR), which are highly sensitive to solid contamination, the solution is versatile enough to support a wide range of treatment processes. This versatility makes it an ideal solution for facilities looking to enhance their treatment capabilities, whether they are upgrading existing systems or building new infrastructure.

The Drumscreen Monster CRS consists of a robust spiral screw housed within a high-efficiency perforated drum, which work in tandem to enhance the capture of solids from wastewater streams. This combination of components ensures that even the smallest particulates are efficiently removed, protecting downstream processes from clogging and reducing the load on secondary treatment systems. It is available in diameters ranging between 2 ft and 6 ft and supports perforation sizes of 2mm, 3mm, and 6mm, flexibly accommodating a wide variety of treatment needs.

The spiral screen’s inlet channel wall seals are engineered to minimize bypass, guaranteeing high capture rates and ensuring that wastewater passes through the screen as efficiently as possible. This feature is critical in maintaining consistent performance, even during peak flow conditions. The drum inlet’s auger sealed bearing plays a crucial role in reducing friction and wear on the rotating parts. By facilitating smooth operation, it extends the lifespan of the equipment, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and replacements.

Additionally, an external brush and spray wash system continuously maintains the cleanliness of the perforations, preventing clogging and keeping the system at peak efficiency. This automatic cleaning reduces manual intervention, contributing to lower labor costs and improved reliability.

Another key feature of the solution is the pivot mount design, which simplifies maintenance procedures by allowing the unit to be easily pivoted out of the channel. This significantly reduces downtime during routine inspections and maintenance activities, as the screen can be quickly accessed and serviced without the need for extensive disassembly. The pivot system also enhances safety for maintenance personnel by providing easier and more ergonomic access to the equipment.

The design allows for seamless integration into existing channels, making it suitable for both new installations and retrofits. This adaptability ensures that facilities can implement the CRS without the need for extensive modifications to their existing infrastructure, reducing installation costs and project timelines.
