Severn Trent extends regionwide framework agreement with ECS for five years

24th April 2024

Following over three years of successful collaboration, Severn Trent has extended its regionwide asset maintenance services (AMS) framework with ECS Engineering Services for five years. ECS will continue to provide design, fabrication, installation, maintenance and testing services for key mechanical water and wastewater infrastructure operated by Severn Trent, helping to deliver clean water to over eight million people across the Midlands and Wales.

Steve Crapper, Precontract Director at ECS, commented: “Following our original framework appointment in 2021, our team has been proud to support critical Severn Trent assets. We are delighted to continue this work for the next five years. This extension is a testimony to our service levels as well as our positive working relationship, and we are looking forward to sharing in more successes in future.”

Based in Nottinghamshire, ECS provides electromechanical services to the water, nuclear and utilities sectors. Its in-house design and fabrication facilities are matched with on-site project management and emergency response teams, which have established the company as a highly experienced framework contractor for water companies, government authorities and businesses.

One of the UK’s largest water companies, Severn Trent supplies around 2 billion litres of clean water and treats 3.2 billion litres of wastewater every day. It serves 4.6 million households and businesses across Cheshire, Derby, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Powys, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire.

Equipment supported by ECS in these regions will include aeration systems, digesters, filters, mixers, penstocks, pipework, pumping stations, valves and screens. Notably, ECS specialises in the distribution, installation, and maintenance of Archimedes screw pumps, capabilities that it will apply to the upkeep of existing Severn Trent installations.

Over the past three years of the existing AMS framework, ECS has conducted several complex projects for Severn Trent. In 2022, the company completed a challenging flap valve repair at British Camp reservoir in the Malvern Hills, employing specialist divers to fit a new winch for actuation. Another project involved renewing the abstraction basement pipework at Mythe Water Treatment Works in Tewkesbury, with the ECS team delivering all works within a scheduled pump maintenance window.
